check out this article. pretty interesting. i cut a portion out...
Apologies to the nerds out there, but now we're going to have to
stop with all the academic pretense and write exactly how we feel.
Love goes out to Korean parents. Their blood, sweat, and tears,
have provided for you so SHUT UP if you wanted the Mercedes instead
of the Lexus. They put their lives on the (front) line for years at
liquor stores and breathed toxic fumes at Laundromats for decades.
They struggled with a foreign language at the age of FIFTY just to
put food in our mouths, clothes on our bodies, and send us to
schools that they never had, only to watch us waste their money and
drop out in a drunken stupor. But what do we do with what we are given? We don't like the food
because it's not what we're craving. We never wear the clothes
because they're not what's "in." It's not the Gucci or Prada we
wanted. We complain about our car because our folks won't let us
put those 24-inch rims you hear so much about on it, or the phat
sound system, because, you know, we can't really enjoy our hip-POP
unless you can hear it from four blocks away, and the car rattles
with each bass bump.We spend our parents' money on clubbing. All of their hard work
and all of the slain liquor store owners who have been shot,
robbed, and looted in the years and years have been for the sole
purpose of our livelihood, so we can go dancing on speaker boxes
with thongs hanging out in a tube top, so we can lower our ride and
go diagonally over speed bumps while staring down any other Asians
in the vicinity down with our suburban hardcore-ness."You don't know what I been through. You don't know me." Shut
the mouth. Aw. you didn't get the new computer system you wanted?
Wait, no, your parents wouldn't pay for the latest paint job on
your dope ride? Stop fronting. The majority of you k-town thugs
live in suburbia, in nice houses with nice cars and nice, groomed
lawns. And if you ain't rich, and you ain't well off, then all the
more reason not to become gangster and ruin what little your
parents have managed to eek out for you.Your PARENTS are the true thugs. The original gangstas.
Fourteen-hour shifts on their feet on the front lines, battling
poverty and crime in the seediest parts of South Central or
Flushing. For what? For you.Think twice before swiping that credit card again. Think twice
before that next shot of Crown. Before you buy that $450 dollar
leather jacket that you just HAVE TO have or you'll DIE. The one
you can only wear twice before it gets old.Love to the parents.

Omigosh, SUPERMAN IS BORN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hahahaha. Totally reminds me of Xmen... mutated ppl... (Thanks LoriGguh!)
Gene mutation makes tot super strong

var clickExpire = "07/24/2004";

A seven-month old baby with a genetic mutation that boosts muscle growth is seen in an undated image.(AP) -- Somewhere in Germany is a baby Superman, born in Berlin with bulging arm and leg muscles. Not yet 5, he can hold seven-pound weights with arms extended, something many adults cannot do. He has muscles twice the size of other kids his age and half their body fat.
DNA testing showed why: The boy has a genetic mutation that boosts muscle growth.
The discovery, reported in Thursday's New England Journal of Medicine, represents the first documented human case of such a mutation.
Many scientists believe the find could eventually lead to drugs for treating people with muscular dystrophy and other muscle-destroying conditions. And athletes would almost surely want to get their hands on such a drug and use it like steroids to bulk up.
The boy's mutant DNA segment was found to block production of a protein called myostatin that limits muscle growth. The news comes seven years after researchers at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore created buff "mighty mice" by "turning off" the gene that directs cells to produce myostatin.
"Now we can say that myostatin acts the same way in humans as in animals," said the boy's physician, Dr. Markus Schuelke, a professor in the child neurology department at Charite/University Medical Center Berlin. "We can apply that knowledge to humans, including trial therapies for muscular dystrophy."
Disease relief
Given the huge potential market for such drugs, researchers at universities and pharmaceutical companies already are trying to find a way to limit the amount and activity of myostatin in the body. Wyeth has just begun human tests of a genetically engineered antibody designed to neutralize myostatin.
Dr. Lou Kunkel, director of the genomics program at Boston Children's Hospital and professor of pediatrics and genetics at Harvard Medical School, said success is possible within several years.
"Just decreasing this protein by 20, 30, 50 percent can have a profound effect on muscle bulk," said Kunkel, who is among the doctors participating in the Wyeth research.
Muscular dystrophy is the world's most common genetic disease. There is no cure and the most common form, Duchenne's, usually kills before adulthood. The few treatments being tried to slow its progression have serious side effects.
Muscle wasting also is common in the elderly and patients with diseases such as cancer and AIDS.
"If you could find a way to block myostatin activity, you might slow the wasting process," said Dr. Se-Jin Lee, the Johns Hopkins professor whose team created the "mighty mice."
Lee said he believes a myostatin blocker also could suppress fat accumulation and thus thwart the development of diabetes. Lee and Johns Hopkins would receive royalties for any myostatin-blocking drug made by Wyeth.
Boy's background, future
Dr. Eric Hoffman, director of Children's National Medical Center's Research Center for Genetic Medicine, said he believes a muscular dystrophy cure will be found, but he is unsure whether it will be a myostatin-blocking drug, another treatment or a combination, because about a dozen genes have some effect on muscles.
He said a mystotatin-blocking drug could help other groups of people, including astronauts and others who lose muscle mass during long stints in zero gravity or when immobilized by illness or a broken limb.
Researchers would not disclose the German boy's identity but said he was born to a somewhat muscular mother, a 24-year-old former professional sprinter. Her brother and three other close male relatives all were unusually strong, with one of them a construction worker able to unload heavy curbstones by hand.
In the mother, one copy of the gene is mutated and the other is normal; the boy has two mutated copies. One almost definitely came from his father, but no information about him has been disclosed. The mutation is very rare in people.
The boy is healthy now, but doctors worry he could eventually suffer heart or other health problems.
In the past few years, scientists have seen great potential in myostatin-blocking strategies.
Internet marketers have been hawking "myostatin-blocking" supplements to bodybuilders, though doctors say the products are useless and perhaps dangerous.
Some researchers are trying to turn off the myostatin gene in chickens to produce more meat per bird. And several breeds of cattle have natural variations in the gene that, aided by selective breeding, give them far more muscle and less fat than other steer.

L Luscious O Odd R Refined I Insane hehe. everyone was doing it so i just had to.. i'm luscious baby **meow**~!LAZY GIRLS & BOYS, ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS POR FAVOR!!!1) A few years ago research was indicating that many Korean-Americans were marrying people from different ethnic backgrounds, with an especially large number of Korean-American women marrying white men. Do you think this trend has continued up to today?2) How do you think most Korean-Americans generally feel about white, African-American, and Hispanic/Latino people? Do you think Korean-Americans are often discriminated against by those other groups?3) Do many Korean-Americans identify themselves as Asian-Americans, or only as Korean-Americans?

being sick sucks. ang ang :'(
here's an interesting forward i got. i recommend u read it:
Shell Oil Co. Announcement
Importance: High
The Shell Oil Company recently issued a warning after three incidents in which mobile phones (cell phones) ignited fumes during fueling operations.
In the first case, the phone was placed on the car's trunk lid during fueling; it rang and the ensuing fire destroyed the car and the gasoline pump.
In the second, an individual suffered severe burns to their face when fumes ignited as they answered a call while refueling their car.
And in the third, an individual suffered burns to the thigh and groin as fumes ignited when the phone, which was in their pocket, rang while they were fueling their car.
You should know that:
Mobile Phones can ignite fuel or fumes
Mobile phones that light up when switched on or when they ring release enough energy to provide a spark for ignition
Mobile phones should not be used in filling stations, or when fueling lawn mowers, boat! , Etc.
Mobile phones should not be used, or should be turned off, around other materials that generate flammable or explosive fumes or dust, (i.e. solvents, chemicals, gases, grain dust, etc.)
To sum it up, here are the: Four Rules for Safe Refueling
1) Turn off engine
2) Don't smoke
3) Don't use your cell phone - leave it inside the vehicle or turn it off
4) Don't re-enter your vehicle during fueling
Bob Renkes of Petroleum Equipment Institute is working on a campaign to try and make people aware of fires as a result of"static electricity" at gas pumps. His company has researched 150 cases of these fires.
His results were very surprising:
1) Out of 150 cases, almost all of them were women.
2) Almost all cases involved the person getting back in their vehicle while the nozzle was still pumping gas. When finished, they went back to pull the nozzle out and the fire started, as a result of static.
3) Most had on rubber-soled shoes.
4) Most men never get back in their vehicle until completely finished. This is why they are seldom involved in these types of fires.
5) Don't ever use cell phones when pumping gas
6) It is the vapors that come out of the gas that cause the fire, when connected with static charges.
7) There were 29 fires where the vehicle was re-entered and the nozzle was touched during refueling from a variety of makes and models. Some resulted in extensive damage to the vehicle, to the station, and to the customer.
8) Seventeen fires occurred before, during or immediately after the gas cap was removed and before fueling began.
Mr. Renkes stresses to NEVER get back into your vehicle while filling it with gas.
If you absolutely HAVE to get in your vehicle while the gas is pumping,
make sure you get out, close the door TOUCHING THE METAL, before you ever pull the nozzle out. This way the static from your body will be discharged before you ever remove the nozzle.
As I mentioned earlier, The Petroleum Equipment Institute, along with
several other companies now, are really trying to make the public aware
of this danger. You can find out more information by going to <http://www.pei.org/> . Once here, click in the center of the screen where it says "Stop Static".

Oh crap... Two shitty things about Gmail...
1. can't read Korean font on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What the freak?!?!?!
2. i can't seem to check my email from my Tues/Thurs hagwon's shitty old computer. and Gmail supports Netscape over Internet Explorer. sucks.
Anyway, I finally have a moment to write a real entry. So what am I up to... I've been in Korea for *gasp* a month now! Actually more than a month! Whoa... Oh damn, whew~~! Earlier today I calculated the amount of money I've spent to ascertain how much money I use in a week. I was dividing by 3 but now I can divide by 4.5... Thank goodness! kekeke. Random thought...
So anyway, since I've been here time has been zooming by! After the first week, I buckled down to get work which I found pretty easily. I now work M-F averaging 4 hours of actual teaching time a day. The principal is partial to me so it makes the experience a lot more easier and fun. Actually, I'm having a great time teaching these kids (ranging from 4th graders to sophomores in highschool) and the money is pretty friggin good.
Other than working and taking care of this and that I really haven't been going out. I get off work anywhere from 8:30 PM - 11:00 PM so it's hard to do anything during the weekday. But now that I finally have everything under control, I should start going out and meeting friends. I still haven't seen so many of my friends. I feel bad but I've seriously been really really busy. For the most part I've been hanging out with my boyfriend a lot and my two bestfriends Lauren & Julie which is actually enough. They're the three people I care most about in Korea besides my family of course. *^_^*
Okay sorry, this blog totally blows. How boring. Well, I just wanted to give you an update... I'll write more when I have more exciting things to report!
Wait, here are some pics from Hawaii... As my bf's identity is still a secret, I could only add pics where he isn't included... kekeke~
This is the view from our hotel in Waikiki...

This is me by the pool with the beach in the background... This was at the Ihilani Spa Resort we stayed at... SO BEYOOOTIFUL...
